I started putting a wrap of duct tape around the open end to make sure it didn't accidently get pulled out. After a guy in Moab went out on the White Rim and came back with his front axle nut missing and he was using hitch pins, I went back to cotter keys. [norton antispam] [dsn_klr650] tire repair hints and tricks
Until I found a hitch pin shaped kind of like a trebel clef, I would run safety wire around the open ends of the pin. The one I have now makes a loop that locks the thing over the end of the axle. I also keep the holes in the axle lined up so the pin points rearward. Tied off with small-diameter stainless steel cable (Tractor supply store) to the chain adjuster bolt, it isn't going anywhere and can be removed in seconds without tools. =) eddie
