looking for klr650 engine

Post by nhjim10 » Sat Jul 31, 2010 10:27 am

Hi all, I've been mostly lurking and even hiding off the group for quite a few months, since my engine seized in my '06 650. I've been unemployed since last September, so there were no funds for repair. BUT I start a new job Monday, and it pays pretty well (at least for my area). Now I'm back in the market for a KLR650 engine. I know there are some on ebay and other sources, but I wanted to try here first. I won't be able to buy for a few weeks, but I want to start the hunt for a good engine with a reasonable price, and if very, very lucky, one in New England (though I can pay for shipping from elsewhere). I want to start with this group because chances are the seller will be straightforward about the engine. I'd trust a seller on here way before one of the ebay sellers. So if anyone has a spare KLR650 engine to fit an '06, I'm interested for the right price. Mileage isn't as important as condition and price. Reply here, or hit me back channel at jaltonnh at gmail dot com. Jim

You're correct in not using brake cleaner on the master cylinder sight window.  Brake cleaner is for cleaning metal parts only.  It will damage plastic or rubber components. Use only denatured alcohol or brake fluid only to safely clean the plastic and rubber components, as well as any metal components. I have a bike (non-KLR) that has a stained brake fluid reservoir. (Thank you PO, sigh.) I 'brushed' it with clean brake fluid and an acid brush (3X)--but it has a peace-symbol shaped grid between the main reservoir and the sight window that hinders complete access to the window. It was somewhat helpful, but the end results were less than fully satisfactory. Is it safe to spray brake cleaner in there on the window? I'm thinking--NOT. so I didn't....

I'd probably pick up a complete running bike and great condition with your color scheme and have a good spare. Swap what you need to make your bike the best of the two, then sell the other one off. -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of nhjim10 Hi all, I've been mostly lurking and even hiding off the group for quite a few months, since my engine seized in my '06 650.
