balancig equipment or wheels

#ygrps-yiv-206702043 p {margin:0;}It seems like a cool concept, I'm not sure how well it works in practice, though. I just use the axle set across a couple of jackstands that I modified a little bit and do a standard static balance.  It only takes a minute or two and I get good results.  I would probably get it done faster if I had some schmancy ball bearing balancer stand, but this one cost me zero dollars.  I've even used this setup to true wheels, etc. The only thing you have to do is be careful in identifying the heavy spot.  Since the wheel bearings have a little more friction than the ones on real balancers, you should find the heavy spot twice, once from each direction.  Split the difference and you have the true heavy spot.  Put weights on the top until it no longer moves when you rotate the wheel 90 degrees, and you're done. http://bit.ly/9tZ3cU for a picture of my setup. -Jeff Khoury
