2008 klr's oil burners?

Post by Jeffrey » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:36 am

It isn't just a matter of how you break it in. My understanding is Kawasaki changed the piston and rings mid 08 model year to stop the oil burning. Different people had different break in methods. My belief is baby it but don't lug it till you are getting near the last 1/3 of the break in period--then gradually start hitting higher and higher revs. Jeffrey #3

front sprocket installation

Post by hill_buster » Mon Jul 26, 2010 5:37 pm

Took out the front sprocket without noting which side goes towards the transmission or engine. Without going into a long story does the larger thicker side (extension) go against the engine OR the the smaller thinner side (extension)? Some will say that the stamped number goes on the outside but in my case the 14 tooth is stamped on the thin side while the 15 tooth is stamped on the thick side. Thank you. Brian

The "thick" side is for the retainer plate on the 90 to 95 models.  So since that would put the "thin" side towards the engine, I would say that would be the same way I would put it on the 96 and later models.
