I did ride Jeff's KLR685--and it was smoother. In just a few short minutes and a limited ride profile, it was hard to discern a 'big' difference in power, but the smoothness was immediately noticeable. Jeff's OEM mirror (equipped with Studebaker(?) mirror isolators) were fully usable up to 60mph--I don't think I went any faster than that. I also use the isolators, but my mirrors were not nearly as those on Jeff's bike. Jeff did mention that his bike next to AJ Clifford's (aka: Reaps)bike had better roll on 5th-gear acceleration. Can't say much more about that--as I was not there to witness that; I was watching from 225 miles away after taking 2d place in the chop-your-finger-off contest a few days before we were to ride together. revmaaatin. sometimes 2d place is better than 1st.> > For those wondering... the first thing I noticed when I rode the 685 was > it's smoother than the stock 650.
