shinko tires
Hi list
Anyone ever heard of Shinko tires? My dealer is proposing to me two models at a really good price and he stock them.
The E700 @ 99.95CDN$
The E705 @ 112.95CDN$
For comparaision the well known Gripster is 139.20CDN$
You can see those Shinko at http://www.shinkotire.co.kr/emain.htm in the dual-sport section
Thanks for your comments

Yep. They are out of Korea and come stock on the Hyosung bikes we
carry at our dealership. They seem to be a quality product so far.
I'd say they would be just as good if not better than many of the
alternatives.

Supposedly, when Yokohama got out of the moto tire biz, they sold the molds, patents, and machinery to Shinko. I don't know if *all* Shinko tires were formerly Yokos or just the radials. Whatever the case, I'm running an R009 Raven on the rear of my NKLR and it works fine. Balanced with very little weight. Never tired one of their DS tires. Also, the Continental Contiforce is OEM'd by Shinko (or so I've heard). RM>Anyone ever heard of Shinko tires? My dealer is proposing to me two >models at a really good price and he stock them.

Anybody have experience with Shinko tires? What model do you have and how many miles did you get out of them? I have started stocking Shinko tires and would like to hear from anyone that has tried these and what they think about them. I'd like to be able to give my customers some first hand experiences from those that have actually used this tire. Shinko looks to be a well made tire and the prices are great. Shinko makes all sorts of tires for Sport, Touring, Sport/Touring, Dual Sport and Off Road bikes. The quality of what I have seen so far of these tires is impressive. The two Shinko tire models I am now stocking are the 700 series and the 705 series. http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/images/shinko_700.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/images/shinko_705.jpg Let me know what you think.

#ygrps-yiv-971255373 p {margin:0;}I haven't had direct experience with the 700s and 705s, but my brother is running the 244s.
They're like a K270 that doesn't feel "squishy" in turns. They chunk center knobs if you run 70+ for long periods of time. Grips almost exactly like a K270 off-road.
I looked at reviews on the Shinkos before I bought my K761s and decided to go with them instead because there were more firsthand reviews of them available. There were also some rumors that the 705s were re-brands of King's tires, but I don't know if that is in fact the case. There were also indications that Shinkos are made by former Yokohama employees using their old molds. Dunno how much truth there is to that either.

Not real good in the dirt, but adequate. The dirt I ride in is soft, sand-like powdery stuff that the tires sink into maybe 3/4" (three quarters of an inch). On pavement they are surefooted and don't track grooves much at all, and have lasted a good amount this far. I don't get any real confidence when I push the bike, but I am not an expert rider either. I feel comfortable on them until the chickenstrip is fairly small (quarter inch?) so they're not dangerous. I will definitely buy them again! Unless I throw the bike on craigslist next week along with the spare knobbies. hehehe

easy fork oil change
Luc,
Suggest you change fork oil "every-now-and-then". It gets dirty and probably doesn't help fork internals! I use ATF when I do.
