Food for thought Did you know that the front brake caliper on the Tengai is identical to the left front caliper on the '94 and up Concours? I have often wondered if the Tengai/Concours caliper would just bolt on to the KLR thus upgrading the KLR front brake to a 2 piston caliper. That would be cool. But I've never really looked at one closely. I'm in Forestville, an hour south of you. Mind if I stop by? I ride up in your area on some of our Sunday morning rides. Do you ever take your KLR through Cow mountain OHV up there? I'm looking to head up there soon some time, maybe with Rick, from the list here. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)

Eric, I just measured the bolt spacing on my '95 Concours front caliper, and they aren't anywhere close to the spacing on my A16. Poo! Guy At 08:27 AM 9/2/03 -0700, Eric Mercer wrote:

If I wanted to substantially upgrade/increase the stopping ability of my '04 KLR650, what all would you guys recommend I do to it?   Thanks,   Greg Hotmail: Trusted email with Microsoft s powerful SPAM protection. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/210850552/direct/01/'>Sign up now.

Attachments : Greg, I put the EBC front rotor, and a braided stainless steel front brake hose on my '04. It's a huge improvement. I have some pictures on my flickr page (see link) of the EBC rotor compared to the stock. http://www.flickr.com/photos/84373829@N00/ Darren Clark 2004 KLR-650 Fowlerville, MI greg saunders wrote:

An oversize rotor will do wonders, I replaced them on my wife's bike and mine and the bikes stop now. Fred at Arrowhead has all the goodies.

Get a 320mm EBC rotor kit, with a SS-line and R series brake pads. The rear is fine, just a good set of pads is all that is needed there. This is the best you can do in upgrading the stock system. If you want even more $$, you can get a bracket set up to adapt the two piston 08 caliper, or maybe one of those six piston Bimbo Brakes. Did I say Bimbo? I meant, Jennifer, no, Bimbo was correct. Re: [DSN_KLR650] RE: KLR Brakes I found that steel lines made a bigger difference to my rear brake than the front; before that my posterior brake felt like mush. I also have a larger front rotor – Braking Systems, don’t think they make them any more. Bogdan

I can't figure out why a stronger front brake would be any better with that skinny little front tire. I can already skid my front tire with the stock brake on asphalt. What's the gain? And off road, I don't even touch the front brake. Or rather, if I touch the front brake, I'm on the ground and not blissfully. Robert P.
