#ygrps-yiv-2139403914 p {margin:0;}Mark, I have the RK chain breaker kit. It works very well and I've broken chains all the way up to 630 with it.  Definitely a quality tool, not a one-time throwaway. http://www.solomotoparts.com/product.ph ... ctid=22972 -Jeff Khoury Astatic Solutions, LLC.

Mark, Motion Pro makes a compact chain breaker that will break an o-ring chain without the help of a Dremel. http://motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0001/ I used one of these for a field repair of a buddy's chain, and was so impressed that I bought one for my own use. It has since been called upon for a couple of field repairs (as well as a number of at-home installations where I ease its task with by dremeling the heads of the pins first). It still works, more than I can say about other chain breakers I have used. I also carry this chain press: http://motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0070/, which leaves me pretty well equipped to deal with most chain emergencies. It may be overkill, as I subsequently found a $5.00 chain press that looks as if it should suffice: http://www.mikesxs.net/products-49.html#products I haven't tried it yet, but it looks a lot simpler to use than the somewhat fiddly MP press. Between the Motion Pro, Pit Posse and Mike's XS websites, you should be able to look at a pretty good range of chain tools, if these recommendations don't suit you.

Description is:   Part number DS-192276.    Heavy Duty Chain Breaker for 420-630 Chain   Lever Type   U of M : EA   Made in Taiwan   Cost I think was about $18 or so from a local dealer.  The tool had to be ordered and took about a week to arrive.   I made my own side plate press from a couple of short pieces of 3/8" x 1" flat stock.  I drilled two holes in one side large enough for bolts to slip through and positioned so they would clear the chain.  On the other I drilled and tapped hole for the bolts.  I drilled and chamfered small holes to match the link pins through the side plates. The chain is placed between the two pieces of flat stock and the bolts are tightened evenly squeezing the side plate onto the link pins.  Then the circlip is installed.  Finally I use the chain breaker to gently pull the side plate tight against the circlip. <><><><><>   Best, Jeff Saline ABC # 4412  South Dakota Airmarshal Airheads Beemer Club www.airheads.org The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650, 79 R100RT <><><><><><> <><><><><><> On Fri, 16 Apr 2010 16:44:12 -0700 (PDT) mark ward writes:   Hey Jeff S./ all   I'm Looking at chain repair tools, to break the links and repair on the road/trail. any Good set you like for the Traveling tool pack. I think i need one of those. I like rivet clips as I have lost a couple master link clips. I know, I know, install the link correctly and no problemo. With a revit clip no problemo ....ever. Criswell

#ygrps-yiv-1093191919 p {margin:0;}The RK is the best chain breaker I've ever used.  No need to grind anything off, just configure the tool according to the instructions, pop on a 14mm socket/ratchet (which I carry in my expanded toolkit anyway), and give it a few cranks.  You could use a wrench, but why? It drives the pin straight out without damaging the link at all. It snugs rivet-on links nicely then a quick switch to the rivet tool firmly secures them.  No clips to worry about. Keep the instructions. It always takes me a couple of minutes to refresh on how to configure the tool. -Jeff Khoury

charging system.

Post by Jud » Sat Apr 17, 2010 5:34 pm

It might as easily be the battery. Here are some simple tests that will give you some insight into the condition of your electrical system. Charge the battery and let it stand for an hour. Voltage across the terminals of a good battery should be in the neighborhood of 12.6 v. Crank the starter. If the voltage drops below 10 v, the battery is probably bad. Charging voltage at idle should be about 13.1 v. As the revs rise, the voltage should increase to somewhere a little north of 14 v, at which the regulator should shunt the current to ground and the voltage will level or fall off.

chain repair

Post by stuart sullivan » Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:00 pm

Yes Jeff i found a site not cheep, don't know if i want to spend that much right now as i already got nearly $800 into mine and I've only had it a month,it never ends and my three road bikes are not even on the road yet,to many bikes i guess,God help me.                                                        Stu.

I like rivet clips as I have lost a couple master link clips. I know, I know, install the link correctly and no problemo. With a revit clip no problemo ....ever.
