valve adjustments

I would go ahead and do the valve adjust yourself. There is so much info on the web about adjusting valves, you can do it. When I first started on my wife's and my KLR's, I was a rank beginner but the internet, this forum and others, empower you to do it right. Read, read, reread and then get to work. I've had times when I wasn't doing something right and I knew it. I got on a forum or 2, asked questions and sometimes I would get a response within 30 minutes ( this includes one Christmas day) and I would be on my way again. Pay attention to the tools you need, because I found having the right tools makes the adjustment that much easier. I think my first adjust by myself, took me 3-4 hours. I did the adjust at 600 miles and both bikes needed shims. Fred sells packages with mixed shims. You will never know what shim you need until you get your valve covers off and check clearances.
