attachments not coming through

Greetings, Well, as noted by others, no attachments are coming through yet.   It may be that you have to set the option up for attachments at the time the web site is established--a one time thing.  It may not be possible to do it at a later date.  I have a few Yahoogroup lists and I remember that this is the case with some options.    Robert Waters

attachments not coming through

Attachments are coming through for me.  I suspect that there are settings on individual computers that may be preventing them from coming through for some of you. FWIW, I'm using Firefox v3.5.5.and I also tried it successfully with IE 7.0. When I view an email which has an attachment, a yellow bar shows at the top of the message with the words, "This message contains blocked images" and a button to "Show Images".  It sometimes takes a while for the yellow bar to appear.  If I click on that button, a box will show up at the bottom of the message with a thumbnail of the attached image.  It sometimes takes a while for that to happen as well. I can click on either the thumbnail at the bottom or the name of the image up by the paper clip at the top of the message to initiate the download process BTW, I have a broadband connection. I think there is some confusion... The attachments are coming thru, but they are only in the e-mail version. I follow this list by reading the e-mail messages sent to me. That is individual e-mails, one per post, not the digest. It sounds like you are reading the posts via the Yahoo web interface. -- Doug Herr A16 in Oakland, California

These attachments can be controlled by the individual, but please don't do that at this time, Fred and I are working on making changes that will not allow individual changes, with the control bestowed on the moderator only. Just because you are a member of this group doesn't mean you should have control over what you can and cannot download. Please be patient, this is good change, you will like it, it is something the majority  wants and is needed. The smaller the better is what I would recommend for file size. Most pictures can be seen well enough at less than 100kb. There are many image programs out there to resize photos and I use a free one at http://www.irfanview.net/ I would suggest that everyone should keep their pictures as small as possible and try to use this option responsibly. Posting any pictures to this list will have to abide by the Terms of Service with Yahoo. http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/utos/utos-173.html I would suggest if you are wanting to send a picture, using one small photo with a link to our Photo Section with the larger image(s). The same with any files sent to this list, keep them very small or send the link. I am not an expert on all email programs out there but most all should have the option of turning off "rich text". For those on dialup, that would eliminate most all unwanted html from your messages. The only option as it is set up now on this site is that those that get their messages by email will have the option of receiving photos, etc. Those that get their messages from the web site or on digest will not have this option. Since this is new to all of us, we will have some period of adjustment and hopefully it will work out for all of us. If not, we can always go back to the way it was before. For those on dialup, see if you can turn off "rich text" to see if that helps. The reason this option was turned on in the first place was to help our ailing list. My job running this list as I see it is to look out for the health of this list. The only way I have to gage how the list is doing is by the number of messages posted each month. Last month was the slowest month for messages we have had since this list was created almost ten years ago. I know the economy has a part to play in this but we have to find a way to make this forum a good and fun place to be for everyone here. If you have any suggestions, I will be glad to hear them. Fred
