albuquerque, nm to merida, old mexico trip

Post by Jim Tegler » Sat Nov 21, 2009 1:42 pm

Howdy, On Oct 24th 4 of us set out from Albuquerque on a 2400 mile trip that would take us to Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The bikes were a BMW F800, Suzuki V-Strom, Harler-Davidson and my A5 KLR. The riders were an Alaskan, an Englishman, a Montanan and a Yukonite respectively. The days in the saddle were long and we had our share of great/cheap food, intestinal complaints, sweaty riding, warm rain, empty roads that were joyous to ride and, crazy traffic that inched along to wind through cities to unknown places. Rode back to Alb. on the 17th of November and I am presently headed up to Whitehorse, Yukon. What can I say? My Pirelli Scorpion ATs were great. We road 95% in daylight. I told the other guys that the rule that one only rides during the days in Mexico has the same flexibility as the rule that you don't punch the Pope. That being - you just don't. The drivers were pretty good. You had to always be assessing the road condition as dead animals or whatever could be appearing momentarily to make your 75 m.p.h. ride too interesting. The cops/soldiers/federales were omnipresent and pretty good to deal with. We got searched lots. What can I say? GO RIDE! rear brake line

Post by Chris Long » Sat Nov 21, 2009 2:40 pm

I was looking at some pictures and I noticed that the rear brake line is coming out the back of the caliper on the 2009. It comes out the front of my 2008. I didn't know there were anything but cosmetic changes between the two. Is there a different caliper, rear brake line, disc, etc. Or is the banjo bolt just turned around? -- Chris Long Chris.M.Long@...
