In regards to AUX lighting I am tempted to add a few fog/driving lights to my bike and yet I am somewhat cheap I own a KLR first off.. but also a 1200GS, and have no inclination to drop over $500 on a TOURATECH light. yes thats right LIGHT.. not a set.. just one. and here on ebay you can buy a lamp housing with glass lens metal housing, and a set of waterproof ballasts for around $100 all together.. I would like to get HID lights as they draw less wattage and the output of them is far better than that of just regular Halogen bulbs. Does anyone here have any thoughts or ideas on reasonably affordable HID lighting? Ride smart and safe. I added sub-$20 lights (Advanced Auto) to my KLR (powered by a relay activated by the City Lights circuit) because I was planning to run 300 miles in the rain. I eventually didn't go on that trip and I don't use the aux lights at all although they function. I just wanted to point out that I might use them more if I had a left-hand operated switch on the hand grip area versus a toggle on the right-side of the mini-dash I made. When in California last winter I saw these lights at a Kragen Auto Parts Store. They also had a 4" version of the same lamp for $100 each, but I'm not seeing it on the website now. http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=CSM&MfrPartNumber=99000CSK&CategoryCode=3157D Here's a link to the 4" light. http://www.sidebysidesports.com/4hidlicuac.html Ross Lindberg Fertile, MN

Tap off the high beam at the back of the bulb to power the relay. That way you can turn the lights on or off with the high beam when the dash toggle switch is in the on position. In the US this is the way driving lights are supposed to be wired to be legal. Fog lights are the opposite and are supposed to be activated with the low beam. I got Optronic foglights for less than $20 on ebay. But, I am not using LED bulbs cuz the good ones are hard to find and too expensive. So, I am going to use ONE Optronic light probably mounted on my Acerbis KTM fender just below the headlight. Then I am going to use ONE 70 watt H3 bulb. I figure ONE 70 watter will not be too much of a draw because I will make it a point to use it mainly going over 50 mph while the stator is zinging. I will have to rig a 14 gauge wire from the batter and a relay and switch. I upgraded my stock headlight bulb whiter? but with the same wattage. It does OK on bright/high beam but then I cannot see too well near and close up sides. It does OK on low beam but I cannot see far. That is why I went with 1 Optronic Foglight with 1 70 watt bulb. So, if someone wants the extra Optronic Fog Light, it is avail cheap. As someone else said it is a KLR not a BMW! Jeffrey #4

tire rubbing

I agree with the dirt bike method for alignment, like on our old XR250s. I have gone 16,400 miles on my chain, which the Kawa dealer says is 60% more than Kawasaki recommends. This might have something to do with it. But before I put on a new rear Avon Gripster, I never had a problem with rubbing, even with a previous knobbie. I have tweaked it again, but have not ridden it....incidentally, I have full Givi bags with tools, etc and commute to a job at highway speeds....until i practice a few miles at lesser speeds around town, I don't want to get on the freeway until I know the "tweak" has been effective..... I'm going to have an 18,000 mile service done including valve adjustment, maybe they'll see I put something on backwards or something similar, but I doubt it...(could I have put the bushing in wrong? I didn't do it the last time, but its possible.... ________________________________ From: Jeffrey To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 11:31:40 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Tire Rubbing On my O4 the hash mark system is pretty lame and is off. I bot a laser aligning tool which works but is a hassle. I find the best easy way to align is by my lower chain guide and how far it is from the tire; a pubic hair with a mostly dirt tire and a 1/4 inch with a mostly street tire. I prefer the snail type quick easy with notches adjuster on some dirt bikes/enduros/ dual sports. Jeffrey #4 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
