Removing the fuel tank yesterday gave me fits. The first bolt to the Frame (under the seat) came out fine but the second kept spinning free but was locked in place. Had to carefully use a pry bar against the washer so I didn't damage the tank and finally got it out.
Has anyone else had problems with those two bolts getting stripped. Upon inspection the first one shows signs of damage at the bottem and the second one was smooth at the bottom from the tip approx a 1/4 inch.
I haven't over tightened them. Cannot figure why this has happened. I suppose I will just replace the two bolts, but am hoping to figure what happened or how to prevent it from happening again. Is there a know issue regard the fuel tank frame bolts.
Thanks for any feedback.

fuel tank frame bolts stripped 2003 klr650
I had the same problem. After I got the bolt out and I used a tap and die set and re-tapped the threads. That has been over two years and I have had the tank off and on numerous times since then. I have no problems with it since.

2009 fuel problems
Jeff knows of what he speaks. Would agree 100%. I've had the same situation with several carb equiped bikes that sat for very short period. Once you dive in and do it once the next time isn't such a big deal. Just need to get your feet wet.
