klr head and cylinder for sale

Post by E Hines » Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:26 pm

I accidently bought a KLR 650 head and cylinder off ebay. I only want $125.00 for both of them. The cylinder has a fresh hone on it. This will not work on my 2003, but will work a 1995 and older (I checked the part numbers on line). First response and they are yours. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

'08-'09 steering head bearings

After living with imprecise, unnerving steering for months - and thinking that it surely was caused by my front tire/rim combination - I just took the front end off my bike to re-grease and adjust the steering bearings. First, the nut on top of the top triple clamp is no longer a 27mm. I bought a 6-point, 30mm socket that worked great. There is NO toothed washer under the top triple clamp to hold the adjustment nut in place. I suppose the triple clamp itself does that job. My top bearings had a bit of grease, that clearish stuff you see on the rear suspension pivots. The bottom races had more grease, but it was a crummy looking gray paste. I repacked everything with good red grease. I put the forks and front wheel back on before I finished adjusting the bearings. The cables from the handlebars and the front brake hose drag on the forks - so if you have a friend who can hold that stuff out of the way, you can get a better feel for the adjustment. I can push my bars lightly and they'll move, but they don't swing all the way to the stops. I think that's what Patman has in mind. I rode the bike and it steers far better! Oh, I marked my bars with a ballpoint line on a piece of masking tape so I'd get them back on at the same angle they came off. Just as Patman predicted, line or not, I had to do it twice!
