Did you own a BSA motorcycle as a companion piece? Which suggests an intriguing line of inquiry? Who here owns, or has ever owned, a motorcycle and a firearm from the same manufacturer? Enfield, Husqvarna, FN, Benelli? My CZ pistols (52 an Vz. 50, both very nice pieces of work) came to me precisely because of the CZ dirt bikes in my garage. Surely there are others.> > Try "Birmingham Small Arms", (the real one, not the one in Alabama). I > used to own A BSA .30-06, very nice piece of work. > DC >

Memories...Early 70s...The week before we were to leave town to get married 2 things occured. Purchased a co-worker's 441 Victor and the rear axle in our only car, a Ford Falcon, seperated. We rode the train to the wedding, hitched a ride back home with the brother-in-law. Could not get the right axle for the Falcon for the next month. The Beeser was our only transportation for over a month. To the grocery store, to the laundramat, to work (thank God for pant suits for my wife). to the movies...saw On any Sunday on that bike. Had a constant bruise on my right knee from starting and hitting my knee on the oil cap just behind the gas tank. Dumb design. Now that was a real thumper. No key, no battery, just the magneto ignition. Only I and the guy I bought it from were the only ones in town that could start it. Step on starter until VERY HARD. Hit valve release lever, push starter a precise amount. Rlease lever, reset starter and whump. She ran (usually, but not always)...> Did you own a BSA motorcycle as a companion piece? Ron,
Memories alright !!
Bought the 500cc {50A ?} variation. Got my 'child bride' a 125 Hodaka. We
would trailer them to a local gravel pit. Chivied Joanne into trying my 'Big
Bike' . . . 'amble around a bit, when you get to that mound of dirt just
twist the throttle about a quarter turn . . ' Well she did, and jumped about
4-5ft !!' - figured it would be worth the beating. To my surprise she had a
mile-wide grin . . 'that was NEAT !!' . . and she did it a few more times.
I taught her that starting was a matter of 'technique' not strength. Any
number of people wanted to try the bike, but none of them could kick her
over. I'd call Joanne over, she'd pop one kick and off she'd go !! LOVED the
expressions on 'Tough Guys' !!
Regards,
Ron Magen

A while back there were lots of talks about the " Stinky Thumper " , KLR with a Diesel engine, is that idea been dropped ? Is it still in the works or gone forever ?
