Hi, I just got back from my trip of the southwest, I'll try to keep the ride report short.
I went with my brother who was on a H-D full dresser and I was on my KLR650, we did three 800 mile days on the way out witch included some scenic roads in Colorado on the third day.Got in to moab last saturday night , did some maintenance on the klr on sunday morning and we where off to the arches N.P.. where I picked up salt valley rd. and went down the trail that takes you down to balance rock ( very sandy ). Also checked out long canyon rd. and of shafer trail.
Monday we headed for the Grand Canyon on the way we ran into two other guys on KLR's from Atlanta ( mike and phil) comes to find out we were going more or less the same place so we road together to the capital reef and went down notam rd. and picked up burr trail ( nice ride) then stayed in kanab BTW my brother went by road harleys don't work that well in the dirt.. Tuesday we split up and my brother and my self went to the grand canyon . That was nice but if you don't plan on hiking etc. there is no need to spend a lot of time there, in my opinion. So we moved on to keyenta but decided we didn't want to stay there so we pushed on to moab ( 500 mile day )
Wednesday I did the white rim and took the shafer trail back to moab, had lunch and did the hurrah pass to chicken corners. Great day a lot of dirt!!
Thursday my brother and I went to Canyonlands N.P. , witch was very cool to see the white rim trail from above and from there we took route 128 along the Colorado river , picked up castle valley road and on to lasal mt. loop and back to moab ( nice ride)
We packed are bikes (90%) for the way home before we went to Mcstriffs< sp) for the first day to register for the rally. That was fun to talk to other KLR owners and see some high mileage klr's. They had a lot of questions because I had already done the white rim.
Friday we got an early start because my brother had never done a 1,000 mile day . Well we did two 1.000 mile days back to back. both of them took 17 hours, witch I thought was good considering I was on a KLR ( before this trip the most miles in one day I had ever road on a KLR was 150 miles) I've done many long days on my concours but none on a KLR.
All an all the trip was great, I got to meet some great people, spent some quality time with my brother and road a few miles ( 6,200 miles ). Seen enough red rock for a life time. The KLR ran great up until the last few hundred miles in the rain ,skipping a beat ( I'll have a post to follow for that problem ).Thanks to all on the list, over the last six months I've picked a lot of brains to help me plan this trip!! Thanks again and GODSPEED!!!
BTW The klr used 8/th's of a qt. on the way out and 1/2 a qt. on the way back at speeds of around 70 mph (GPS), Gas mileage was affected by many element I was getting anywhere from 150 in Kansas fighting heavy winds to 220 at lower speeds on the way out to a tank, The gripsters handled great on the street and sucked in the sand and ok in the dirt, they look like I have many more miles in them. The corbin seat worked very good with beads but not that well with out ( so much for 2,500 miles to break them in ). A GPS is very helpful ( I never leave home with out it)

moab trip
Denis,
If I could predict the weather, I'd move to Las Vegas. Today we have had rain, hail, snow and sun. If you want to keep an eye on the current weather here, you can check out http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/weather.html
My shop is just around the corner from the KOA campground. Stop in when you are here.

moab trip
Hello KLR riders,
This is a quick report of a great trip from Arkansas to Moab to wheel in the beautiful desert. My son and I took our bikes and road them for 3 days. We road Slickrock bike trail 4 times, twice each direction. It is a wonderful trail, especially for lighter bikes. I took my XT225, which by the way performed marvelously. No problem starting it in that altitude, which is a problem here. Must be too lean from the factory. And the stock gears were just fine.
We road Fins and Things, Hell's Revenge and on another day three other trails. I believe they were Gold Bar, Spike and another I can't remember the name of...Golden Rim Maybe, the one that has the crack that is hard to cross. They all join. We started on one and wound up doing them all three, which was about a 45 mile ride. The most difficult part of the ride was where there was sand below a rocky difficult climb. The sand made it difficult to get any kind of run at the climb.
I highly recommend Moab for bikes, especially the Slickrock trail. Almost 80% were mountain bikes (the motorless kind) so evidently the word is not out or dirt bikes are not so popular any more. It would be possible to do the trails on a KLR, if you are a big strong guy, but one would certainly need to lower the gears. I would not think of doing them on my KLR.

klr for sale - dallas area - trying again
Tried to sell this about a while back no but one was interested then and
maybe now it's warming up and folks will be looking again to get outside
and ride.
After (2) back surgeries and being laid off last year have come to the
conclusion it's going to be a while till I ride again. You take the time
the doctors tell
you and multiply by 5.63 to get a realistic recovery time. It sucks
getting old but stuff happens!
2008 Kawasaki KLR-650, Blue, 4600 miles, excellent condition, oil
changed about every 1K miles, brand new MEFO tires (maybe 50 miles on
them) includes lot s of extras, large bright yellow riding jacket, with
liner,
new battery about a year ago, my bad dried out, (2) helmets, one large
flip up, one small Arai (kid), tank bag, battery charger and quick
disconnect and all the extra fluids and stuff that I have. There are
some small
scratches from moving around garage, etc. This bike has never had any
oil burning issues and always been taken care of and looks great and run
great. Has a battery charger quick disconnect input installed
and has been started and allowed to run for a while every couple of
days. Pictures are available upon request.
Muffler recall completed but still has the wiring harness recall needs
to be completed. As I have not had any electrical issues and really
can't get it to the dealer have been waiting.
$4100.00. Located in Carrollton, TX. About 25 miles north of downtown
Dallas. Will be posting on Craigs List probably next week sometime but
thought I would give it a shot here first!
Thanks!
