Wow, an automatic spell checker on this list. What will they think of next.

)) Thanks for the correction. My spelling is so bad that my boss has been looking for a pen with builtin spell check.

He said that when he would start it it would be fine and then die when he applied power. When I got there we jumped it (battery dead) and it started just fine. Rev it up and seemed fine. Put it in gear and eased out on the clutch. Tach needle shot to zero and motor died. The bike would start in nuetral with the clutch out or in gear with the clutch squeezed. With the trans in nuetral the clutch lever could be in or out and all was fine. As soon as it was put in gear and the clutch eased out the tach needle would go to zero and motor would cut off. We took the clutch switch apart and cleaned the contacts but it did nnot make a difference. Not sure where the nuetral switch is. There does not appear to be a sidestand switch. Any and all advice appreciated. Shame of all shame we had to (glup) trailer the bike back to his house.

Its with a heavy heart and shaky hand that I post. I've had my KLR for 5 years, riding, wrenching, reading and contributing to this forum. The forum really is the magic in the KLR. There are better bikes in almost every way, but none have the "do it all" of the KLR. This forum is the best.
I've been drawn to the dark side, the F650 BMW side. Quasimodo, my 2001 KLR is running great with 22000 miles. I stumbled on a nice F650 with 2000 miles for just a few hundred more than what I sold the KLR for. Sorry, I just couldn't say no. Its very much like my KLR.
Well, my thanks to all of you for the great postings and many ,many great miles. The BMW forum is nothing like this. Much more stuffy, but well, its is what it is, and bottom line, it is very informative.
With that said I'm signing off. I'll always cherish the many good times on the KLR and my fellow forum buds.
Ride often, ride safe.
