medical costs, nklr
I am just recovering from a bout of pneumonia, and I got thinking about
the costs of my treatment here in Canada versus what would it have cost
at a US medical facility.
I am not trying to start a pneumonia thread, or a private vs public
scrap, I am curious about the costs involved.
I had two Dr office visits, a set of chest x-rays, plus two
prescriptions with a total original cost of $120 for the two. I paid $36
for the two prescriptions, (anti-biotics), and the government paid the
rest of the total bill.
Has anyone any idea as to what the costs of that lot on a private basis
would be?
Remember, folks, we need no further political content, we just got 4
years worth.
Thanks in advance,
DC

Dear Neked etc etal, (I'm sure there is a story there--neked and all that) Yes there is a vaccine--and there are restrictions--or so I am told. I was quite interested in the vaccine, as I am a 4x pneumonia offender with hospitalization 2 of those times. When I asked about it, I was told, "You are not old enough" for the vaccine. Seems like it is not usually administered to folks less than 60 (or more). Maybe someone else here has some other data. revmaaatin.> > A pneumonica vaccine is available...prevention costs far less > everywhere! >

Hmmm. I had a bout of pneumonia a few years ago. No hospitalization; they just treated it with antibiotics. I didn't realize I had it until I complained to the doc about a dry cough. Even then, I didn't think it would curtail me until I tried to ride some tight single track, hung my bike on a high root step and had to wrestle it off. Almost didn't get out of the woods. Now that I am on the ugly side of 60, maybe I should get interested in the vaccine. I never thought about flu shots until they started pushing them on me a couple of years ago, but my attitude has changed.> > --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "nakedwaterskier" > wrote: > > > > A pneumonica vaccine is available...prevention costs far less > > everywhere! > > > > Dear Neked etc etal, > (I'm sure there is a story there--neked and all that) > > Yes there is a vaccine--and there are restrictions--or so I am told. > > I was quite interested in the vaccine, as I am a 4x pneumonia offender > with hospitalization 2 of those times. basis would be? Not the same scenario but should give you an idea. When I tweaked my foot last year in the LA-B-2-V ride, my single doctor's visit with one X-ray of my foot cost me $475. I don't have insuarance so that was all out of pocket. And the doctor never even personally told me what was wrong. Had to hear from his secretary that my toe was dislocated and there were no broken bones. I reset my toe alone in my hotel room rather than pay another $400 for a visit to a worthless doctor. da Vermonster> I had two Dr office visits, a set of chest x-rays, plus two > prescriptions with a total original cost of $120 for the two. > Has anyone any idea as to what the costs of that lot on a private

Thank you, I was trying to get a sense of approx. where it would stand,
and this figures to about $600 for my job.

As a fellow canuck, I can give you a bit of personal experience. I showed dogs for 22 years when I was younger and would try to remember to buy my extra medical coverage each time I would cross into the US for shows. After forgetting a couple of times to make the purchase, I started to buy a one year policy through CDI (Cdn. Direct Insurance). It costs me about $90 for $5 million additional coverage with any number of trips per year BUT no trip more than 35 days. In a couple of weeks, I'm heading south with my HD Road Glide in the back of the truck to spend 3 months in California (semi-retirement is GOOD!!!). I'd love to take the KLR also but most of my riding is touring, sometimes with the my Californian girlfriend('s) behind. I plan to travel in Mexico and other southwest states while I'm there I've done this multiple times but never for this long a period. CDI want an extra $133 to top up my coverage from 35 days to 90 days. I'm buying it (57 years
old, no health issues except increasing forgetfullness). About 10 years ago, while in Hawaii boogie boarding, I tore up my shoulder crashing onto the beach (and I ride a motorcycle???). The next day I went to a local doctor and he injected my shoulder with cortisone just to take the pain away so I could enjoy the rest of my trip. That cost $275, took 5 minutes, and no hospitalization or follow-up. CDI refunded me the cost. Do NOT cross the US (or any other) foreign border without extra medical coverage ESPECIALLY considering the inherant riskes on a bike and the enormous costs of for-profit medical in the US. Fortunately, CDI doesn't group riding with 'civil unrest' or 'suicide'
but WILL deny coverage if you get charged with DUI and are injured.
HTH,
Gord

steering stem bearing replacement
I konw, I just posted a question about my swing arm bushings, looks
like I'm getting it in both ends!
See it's snowing here in Alaska and I have nothing to do but look for
whatever was making all that #!%@*% noise last summer. Really by the
end of the season I had noticed a thump in my forks when I was on
really rough roads.
Have you ever had your steering syem nut just come loose? Mine did and
guess what? Tightening it back to 24 ft. lbs. torque didn't do the
trick. Now I'm headed into a top and bottom bearing replacement.. If
you have done this and can tell me how not to put an eye out while I'm
at it let me know.
Thanks,
