winter riding kit on the cheap

Post by Skypilot » Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:31 pm

As always I have pulled out and checked out my winter riding gear to be sure I am ready to continue the season here in New England, Grrr, I'm a tough guy! Ummmm,, I'll just keep telling myself that at least! Part of this bizarre annual ritual involves keeping my eyes open in the fall for deals in case I need to replace something. To that end I herein publish my years finds for winter riding kit on the cheap. You can get away with most any full face helmet by keeping the face shield open a notch. If, however, you fear frost bitten eye lids you could order one of these snowmobile helmet with a dual wall shield and breath guard for $69.97 or even a modular flip up with the same accoutrements for $79.97 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=404973 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=465536 This riding suit is my top pick. The suit is $119.97 and the gloves are $24.97. The descriptions for both cover all the important points for a toasty winter commute. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=477183 This 1 pc snow suit probably isn't your best bet at highway speeds but at $49.97 it might be worth a try if your on a really tight budget. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=302604 If you go with the $49 suit then you will need some gloves $21.97 also. These look to be pretty usable. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=482945 Sportsman's guide also has several snowmobile boots to offer but I don't know which ones are good deals yet so you will need to look for yourself. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/

I recommend Kimpex grip heaters ($22) with home-made handlebar gauntlets. That way you can wear thin motorcycle gloves for full heat transfer through the palms of the gloves and enjoy full dexterity. Mark
