waterproof moto boots?
Anyone have any suggestions on where to look for waterproof off-road
motorcycle boots? SO far the closest thing I've found in searching is
the Sidi Discovery Rain boots which only claim to be water resistant.
Even the combat touring boots from Aerostich says something like, with
a waterproofing agent on the leather, they ALMOST eliminate the need
for rain boots.
The way I like to crash, er, um, ride, I need the protection of a full
off-road boot so going with a non-moto specific boot or even a street
moto boot is not really an option I want to explore...
thanks for any help,
da Vermonster

waterproof moto boots?
I have a pair of Thor Quadrant ATV boots I got from Fred. They are a
full-off road boot that I have had good luck with. I ride in all
weather, so I wanted something that would keep my feet dry as well.
I want to say that the price was somewhere around $130, so the price
is not too bad to handle. They have kept my feet dry so far, except
I think there is a little moisture wicking in around the stiching
that attached the sole to the boot. A little seam sealer should fix
that problem. I have 7000 miles on them so far and have really liked
them.

Tumu, I think the Sidi Discovery is the closest thing to a full
off-road boot you are going to find if you want to stay dry.
They are not as high as a full off-road boot and have less ankle
protection but do allow you to walk in them. Some people claim
they leak but I have never had mine get wet inside even on
five hour trips in heavy rain. The only times they did get wet
inside was from putting my foot down during water crossings
and the water came in over the top. You have to be careful to
fold the membrane in while buckling them up. If you crease or
pinch it that is where it could develop a leak.
Due to Sidi's merchant agreement you should not be able to find
them priced lower online than in the store so it is best to find a
dealer and try them on. The sizing tends to run small. At least
this way you will get to see them and decide if the construction
of the boot is an acceptable compromise. Otherwise you will have
to stick with the full off-road boot and occasionally have wet feet -
unless something new has arrived on the market recently that I
am not aware of.

You might want to consider Oxtar Infinity boots. Sturdy boots with
waterproof membrane. Comfortable enough for walking around in. I chose
them over the Sidi or Aerostich boots due to the waterproofness.

waterproof moto boots?
I have Combat Touring boots. They are really close to water proof.
as a matter of fact. I have ridden in heavy rain.. Not even a little
water came in.. I mean my socks were dry.. So there you go. as far
as protection. I never wear my full moto boots any more. These
Combats are the real deal.. They will protect you.. And the are
comfortable enough to wear all day long. (once there broken in that
is) I wear em all day long when I ride to work. They are the closest
thing to boot perfection I have ever had. and I have had a lot of
boots. My M2R nordic touring boots and my full moto boots are in my
closet collecting dust. I'll never need another motorcycle boot
again. These are that good.

I have pretty much used oup one pair of Combats, and now wear Combat Lites. They are
close to waterproof if you are riding in rain. Treating them with SnoSeal, giving special
attention to the welt, will help keep out the water. They will stay drier if your riding pants
cover up the tops. If you tuck your pants into your boots, your feet will get wet. If you ride
all day in a driving downpour, your feet will get wet. If you ride through water over your
footpegs, your feet will get wet.
Of course, if you stand in water over your boot tops, your feet will get wet, but the water
will drain out after a while. If you do the same thing in boots that are truly waterproof,
your feet will stay wet for a long time. If you tuck your pants into your waterproof boots,
your feet will get wet and stay wet.

The Aerostich Combat boots must be real nice, but,
depending on your style of riding that you do, also..
I was thinking of maybe something more like this

I'll second this comment. I have two pairs of Oxtars, Matrix and Infinity; both are excellent and keep my feet bone dry in the worst weather. Folks I don't own a pair of MC boot and ride 20 to 25K per year on motorcycles. Being in Law Enforcement I have always purchased a high quality lace up waterproof boot. I have found that Danner Boots meet all my needs:
http://www.danner.com/category/gore-tex+boots/gore-tex+uniform+boots.do?page=3
I like the Striker GTX boot for the price and the fact that is is Gor-Tex lined.
Danner also make some boots that do not have molded but stitched on soles and can be re-soled, localy or by Danner.
The Acadia Elite GTX Uniform Boots is an example of one that can be resoled. Don't let the Danner home page prices scare you off. Find the boot you are interested in and do a Google search... There is a host of Law-Enforcement and Para-Military supply companies on line.
I have ridden in the pouring rain for hours and not have a wet sock. I like the lace up becaused it supports my weak ankles.
That's my thoughts on Water Proof riding boots.

Sidi Discovery is a great boot, with more protection than the made-by-
Sidi Aerostich Combat boots. Walt, I'll take your advice and be
careful with the membrane folding. Mine leaked while I was standing
in a creek taking pictures, but they've been pretty water tight
otherwise.
If you've got boots that aren't waterproof, or want to hedge your
bets, try some SealSkinz http://www.sealskinz.com/
