A buddy of mine took a 640 LC on my TAT trip this summer. It was "finicky" to say the least. We burned at least 14 hours of trail time fixing it. Not a fan. What do you all think about the new Yammie WR250R????? __ [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hmmm. A buddy of mine took his LC4 Adventure to Copper Canyon last year. It took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. He crashed it hard once, and dropped it a number of other times. But mechanically it gave less trouble than my DR650. I Would still prefer the Suzuki for that trip, and my KLR for some others, but my biggest beef with my LC4 is the time it takes to change the oil.

A good friend of mine moved here from Idaho this spring. His step- son has a Polaris Outlaw with the KTM engine. We went for about a 20 mile spin on the quads and I got to ride the Outlaw. I was pretty excited to try it out since that's probably as close as I'll ever get to KTM ownership. I too had been looking at the KTM bikes, but that 20 mile ride changed my mind. The first thing I noticed was that it was very finicky to get started and warmed up. The second thing I noticed was the vibration. It wasn't the amount of vibration, rather the frequency. It felt like it went right up my spine and rattled my brain until I has a splitting headache within about 1 mile. As far as performance goes, it was a real screamer, just a blast to ride, but as the engine warmed up it stalled easily and was a pain to get restarted when warm. It definitely wasn't a machine that you could just putz around on, you had to ride it like you had stolen it otherwise it fouled the plug and ran like crap. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the opportunity to ride it, but by the end of the ride I had enough. There is more to live than just pure performance. Performance is great if you are racing, but for everyday or pleasure riding, I think I would look for something different than KTM. Just my humble opinion. Ross Lindberg Fertile, MN

Hey Ross! Let me know the next time you're out this way and I'll let you ride my 690 Enduro. I expect it'd be a better experience than the quad. :) -- Blake Sobiloff http://www.sobiloff.com/> San Jose, CA (USA) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Hi, I thought I'd Chime in here on KTMs.. My Buddy Vice and I were heading out last Thurs. The 23rd. We were going on a 5 day adventure tour around Grand Canyon and UT. Moab and monument valley. Just out side of Victorville CA. His 640 Adventure went south... An awsome bike..So we went for plan b.. Got a friend to pick up his bike..Went back to my house and he loaded up my CB1000.. He rode that and I rode my beloved KLR. We went on a five day tour of coastal and Northern Ca.. My KLR preformed beautifully.. Not a hicup.. Cost of my KLR new was $4700. out the door his KTM was easily twice the price..The plan B turned out great.. We had a blast riding up HWY. 1 The versitility of the KLR made it possible.. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Silver Duck wrote:

The Italians call it "character". The Japanese call it a "design flaw" The Germans admit nothing (this would includes the Austrians) --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "hotrodkawi" wrote:

Hi folks, No rant here. I did the early voting process today (painless & short line) which is only to say that I did my civic duty. I highly recommend voting, while it does not make your KLR faster or keeps oil leaks (or threads) away, it does give you the opportunity in many local elections to protect very valuable rights. Helmet laws, where/when you can ride, etc...... are on many local ballots. You won't hear Mr O, or Mr M talk about these issues, but they are as real as who taxes whom (local tax isn't cheap these days either) So, please vote, no opinion from me on who/what you vote for, just vote. Ride Safe & Ride Often albatross a short get-out-the-vote message only today
