61 for 61 ride report - part 1

Post by Ron and Brenda Moorhouse » Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:16 am

This may be elementary, but...I use a Battery Tender to charge my battery, with a permanent battery connection that extends out under the seat, using the same wire/connector system as the battery tender, of course; then I made a 12 foot long connection, again using the same battery tender type wire and connector at one end, and typical battery cable spring clamps (small ones) at the other end. So, like the monster cable idea, I only need to take my seat off to check battery water level; never for charging or helping someone else. About a foot of decent gauge wire is all you need. They have ring crimp terminals on the positive battery post and female bullet crimp connectors on the other end and some heat shrink tubing so no stray strands. I didn't add any wiring to the negative battery terminal cuz you can find several grounds easily on motorcycles. But, anytime I need to jump or charge or float charge my motorcycles or someone elses motorcycle, I don't have to take off my side panels and seat. Not to mention what a pain it can be to push start a KLR! My friend claims on his fuel injected BMW motorcycle, he has to take off the tank to add water or charge his battery. I found that if we took off his starter cover, we could jump or charge there. A little preparation and/or knowledge can save hours of labor. And having a jump starting or charging port can make life much easier. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

08 klr for sale -- see the fine print

Post by AnanthR » Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:43 am

I am selling my 08 KLR. The bike suffered from an engine seziure and I do not have the money or patience to get it fixed and I hate to just let it lie around. My loss is your gain. Name your price and take the bike. I am based in Tracy, CA (near SFO). Additional Details: 08 KLR Red, With JC Whitney box and a powerlet socket installed.

Big time bummer! I'm thinking oil starvation. Likely needs a new/rebuilt head, and the lower end thoroughly cleaned and checked. Oil pump might be damaged, maybe not. Do you have an idea how much you are asking/willing to settle for? all the best, Mike
