Interesting, Ron. Well, if you're somewhat a dice-thrower or really short on space (how??), you can opt for the front tube only. I've never tried it. If I'm going lux, I prefer a front and rear spare (in addition to patches and Slime). Another option which is what I use is to get a front fender pack like MSR's which will hold a tube. It's hard to get a heavy duty front in there though. I haven't tried to get std duty front and rear in there but my guess is no. In any event, a spare tube can get strapped on anywhere (just be cautious of cactus, if applicable). I like the tubes to be accessible so I don't have to unload the entire bike to find a tube and other tools. Being by the side of the highway and looking like a yard sale is not my preference.
