I do that with my bread so it doesn't get smashed. On a few occasions when I was without a car (or I got in over my head when I went to the store to pick up "just a couple items"), I managed to fit an entire cart of groceries on my bike. Stuffed it in a Givi E45 topcase, Wolfman tank panniers, Wolfman Alpha Pack, and a bungee net for the rest. The only bad part is that it takes 20 minutes to get everything in its place on the bike.
