cargo straps question

After my first trip with a new iPod, I'm hooked. On great twisties I like looking at the scenery and being with my thoughts, but on boring stretches the music sure is nice. The problem is earphones. I a Sony in-ear set that is OK, but just. The "arm" that is on the outside of my ear causes the earphones to become uncomfortable under the helmet. Also makes it easy to dislodge them. Efficiency (read VOLUME) is also an issue. So who makes an in-ear model that has the least amount of equipment on the outside of the ear, and produces a decent volume at good sound? I'm considering Etymotics or Shure, but not sure which model fits the bill. Other suggestions appreciated.

Last time I checked they can be had a little cheaper at other sellers. I've used these on the road and they work quite well, although you have to have the volume turned up louder than my ears like to enjoy the music. Cost was pricey as I remember it was about $180. I find now I use them more for listening to the radio while cutting the lawn and field than motorcycle riding. They are nothing more than a custom ear plug with a transducer inside. Nothing but a wire sticks out of you ear. That looks like a good option to try. I've also had good luck with cheap, in-the-ear versions like these: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2624950> I actually picked up a great set at Walmart in Canada a few years ago for $5.00. I love 'em and I wish I bought a case. Skip the "audiophile" phones. Between the road noise and wind, you won't enjoy the benefit gained by paying an extra $150. Mark

I have the ER-4p and love 'em, but they do have a substantial bit that sticks out from my ears. My helmet (Arai XD) pushes on 'em a bit, but I get used to it after a few minutes and can ride all day without a problem.
