I will be leaving in September to ride from Colombia to Argentina... about 4 months (anyone who wants to join me for part of the trip please contact me). I live in Panama, so will ship the bike to Bogota to start. I'm a little concerned with the number of tires I'll go through in the 15-20k of travel, and the difficulty of obtaining them. The 21" front is common enough, but what about the 17" rear? Does it make sense (and is it even possible) to change to an 18" rear? Any thoughts appreciated.

What kind and size of rope? I've thought about that myself -- something for self-rescue, or assistance when people-power alone won't do it. Not just for stuck in mud, but for a steep sided ditch you fall into and cant ride out of.
