Dear fellow klr650 owners: My bike is a 2001 model,,(it looks like 2007) well maintained and i performed all the req. maintenance, but latelly i will notice that the engine is not performing as it was before,,,acting like if i got a dirty air filter or bad fuel, ( i checked the air filter and is not that dirty, and fuel i use teh midle price fuel and recently i let the fuel in the carburator to drip in a botle, abaut 1/2 or pine, it seems to be clean. So now i don't know what is the next step,,,,,,,,,anyone can help??? Also,,,if there any kid to install in this bike for a fuel q. gage?

Your rough running engine probably has a clogged jet in the carburetor. Try some Techron or SeaFoam for a couple tanks of gas. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to disassemble the carb and clean the jets. No fuel gauge kit that I know of. I reset my trip meter every time I fill up and can tell how far I've ridden with that tank of gas. At about 250 miles I start looking for a gas station. YMMV. Mike Martin, Louisville, KY

Part of my spring maintenance was to replace the choke cable, a couple times last summer I had sudden drops in gas mileage for no apparent reason along with response that seemed to be a little off, The choke cable was hanging up allowing to the choke to stay partially on, this could be noticed if you looked at the cable housing at the choke lever, when you shut the choke lever off the outer cable housing would push out from it's seat rather then disengage the choke. The last few weeks of the fall I had to hold the outer cable housing seated in place to allow the inner cable to push through it to disengage the choke. I cut the old cable apart after I replaced it and found although I had oiled it several times it had been seizing at the 90* bend where the cable connects to the carb to the point of after sitting all winter it had completely seized with the choke completely on. Simple problem with a simple cure in my case, have a great evening......Greg not yourbuss wrote: Dear fellow klr650 owners: My bike is a 2001 model,,(it looks like 2007) well maintained and i performed all the req. maintenance, but latelly i will notice that the engine is not performing as it was before,,,acting like if i got a dirty air filter or bad fuel, ( i checked the air filter and is not that dirty, and fuel i use teh midle price fuel and recently i let the fuel in the carburator to drip in a botle, abaut 1/2 or pine, it seems to be clean. t2, Welcome to the world of the 'farkled KLR'. The bad: Unfortunately, adding hardening devices ie rad guards, HT Nerf bars, etc also limits immediate access. The good: you don't have to access it very often. The first time I wanted to service the battery, I nearly had a conniption fit. I was "Peter the sailor, not Peter the saint that day." [Some aspects] Not designed very friendly--but designed with few moving parts to fail--just takes a little longer to access. shrug. Now, it seems like no big deal. You just do it--you farkle your KLR to protect it. You will be glad you have farkle-armored your bike later-- especially if you ride it to remote places and fall down. As a side bar note, change out those glass fuses (also located under the seat for the ATO blade fuses that will be relocated to a place where you can access them immediately. It also replaces the fan fuse behind the right shroud with a blade fuse. This ATO kit is available from Arrowheadsports and others. (No association, etc-blah.) revmaaatin.
