random thoughts to share (summer riders) nklr

Post by Terry Taylor » Thu May 29, 2008 8:57 am

As the summer draws near I find myself sharing the road with more & more fellow bikers.Don't get me wrong,I love looking at other bikes as they pass by.What is getting to me though is the required "wave of the hand" for each biker I see as they pass by. I ride pretty much year-round and in the cooler months it is not so much an annoyance because there are fewer bikers.I find myself at times(in the summer) basically riding with one hand because the other one is off the handlebar acknowledging the other riders. I have decided from this point forward that if you you ride with a helmet, wear gloves,a jacket, pants & reasonable footwear...regardless of what bike you ride, then you have earned my respect as a rider & therefore I will bestow upon you my seal of approval with a complimentary wave of the hand. However,if you are on a Harley or a Harley wannabe (or any bike for that matter)and you are wearing sandals, shorts & a ballcap turned backwards, revving your bike every 5 seconds at a stoplight w/ straightpipes then I really look at you as a temporary rider, soon to be scraped off the street and I WILL NOT give you a wave of the hand.Depending on my mood though I might give you a nod of the head but the hand will stay on the grip where it should be.Is this wrong?? Am I letting down my fellow "bikers" ?? These are questions that I ponder at night as I try to go to sleep. P.S.If you are properly dressed & on a dual sport I will grant that special person a gracious pump of the fist or a salute like a soldier.I might even pull you over & buy you a beer, who knows??? I've been doing it that way for years. Basically, if the other "rider" is someone I'd look at and immediately think "Idiot", the effort required to acknowledge said "rider" isn't worth the hassle. Don't get me wrong... I'd pull over and call 911 for anyone, but I only wave to folks that I wouldn't mind actually talking to. ;) --Jonathan "smthng" Kalmes Springfield, VA 2005 Yamaha FJR1300ABS - "Blue Bayou" 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon - "Teflon" 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 - It's here, but it hasn't earned a name yet. ;) http://smthng.info "Look, the truth is, I've been trying to save the world, one person at a time, but, I'm meant for smthng bigger. Goody, another Wave thread. About as enlightening as an oil thread, or tires, or chain lube. For the record, Rotella, D606, WD40, and I wave back unless preoccupied.

And I would politely decline the offer. I drink beer, but never, ever before riding. ...Not even one. While on the subject, ever notice that 90%+ of the bikes parked in front of any given bar are H-Ds? Is that indicative of something? Terry Taylor wrote:

I wave at anyone on a motorcycle. However, I save the big goofy wave for the rare KLR I happen to have the pleasure of sharing the road with at that particular moment of time. :) Don+ _____ From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Terry Taylor Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2008 8:58 AM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Random thoughts to share (summer riders) NKLR As the summer draws near I find myself sharing the road with more & more fellow bikers.Don't get me wrong,I love looking at other bikes as they pass by.What is getting to me though is the required "wave of the hand" for each biker I see as they pass by. Was that not Carly Simon whom sung the famous words " theres Crown in my coffee" ? Ah Crown, the only thing I can do to support NAFTA that I am aware of. By the Order of the Purple sack I declare this post fit for posting. Dooden (Got a Purple Sack collection) A15 Green Ape --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "roncriswell@..." wrote:

Ah.... I love a good anti-"iron horse" thread to start the summer riding season. Mark
