So I've had my bike out from winter storage for about 6 weeks. The bike is a A18 with 37k. I've owned it since new and its never seen a dealer. The first couple of rides felt great! back on the bike after a long winter, then a larger vibration started to appear from medium speeds and up. When I got above 100kmhr the vibration increased with the throttle. I'm thinking valves and balancer chain, so I pull it apart and find both exhaust valves tight, replaced the shims and adjusted the doohicky(no window just the loosen, a tap, then re-tighten) put it back together and yes the vibration was better, it was about half at highway speeds....now I havent been of the bike for 5 months and I start to think - it is a thumper and they do vibrate, is it so different from last fall? So I rode it some more and Yes the vibs are worse. I start looking at the K270 I have on the rear, with over half its life left, it was squared and howling at speed, so I ordered a new K761 to try because I'm commuting 120km a day for 3 months and a more street tire is in order. Maybe something let go in the tire? It certainly wasn't helping the vibrations! Changed the tire(hand tools) and although it was better, it wasn't much better. When I had the rear wheel off I checked and repacked the bearings, seemed fine, rolled smoothly, had a close look at the chain and checked the alignment. So Vibration is still there! It can only be 2 things- either something is up in the engine or its the bearings - I changed the rear bearings this morning and TADA it feels normal again. I thought I would share this with the group just in case someone is thinking their KLR has more vibration than it should- check your wheel bearings Alex
