wax or polish recomandation for plastic?
Has anyone had any luck w/ a good polish?
The red on my '05 turned an ugly flat pinkish purple.
3M Fiberglass cleaner/polish gives a satin finish and
only lasts a very few days.

Lemon Pledge seems to bring them back (unless you
paint the plastic black with spray can bedliner paint
as I have). Mine was green. My least favorite color.

I've used polishing compound to get rid of the oxidation (pale green
in my case, pink in yours) and restore the color. Follow that with a
good UV protecting car polish. Depending on the weather/sun exposure,
it looks pretty good for 2-3 months. Hitting it with some Lemon
Pledge, as Criswell suggested, will spruce it up in between times.
But I think most Listers will agree that the best KLR plastic
protectant known is mud.

Paul, Please come to South Dakota; we have a very fine polish--only available in central to western SD, Montana and parts of Wyoming. You may have heard of it, "Gumbo Dust". A few applications of that, and you will throw that other worthless 3M crap away. And the best part? The Gumbo Dust is FREE. Gumbo Dust is not to be confused with the other local product, "Gumbo Mud" or the less intense, "Gumbo Muck/Slime" Believe me, those dual sport products are to be avoided, unless you are in the top 5% of riders. Using Gumbo Mud or Gumbo Muck/Slime will often cause the rider to lapse into "Dirt Naps" and perhaps, even lead you to meeting lots of new folks dressed in smocks and scrubs. NOTE: Those folks are to be avoided as well--particularly if you notice that they are doing a wallet biopsy, prior to treating you for 'advanced stages of dirt nap'. (Not to be confused with asphalt- naps, or rock ledge naps--entirely different animal.) Any time spent using 3M polish means you are not properly changing the gas in your bike. Throw away the polish, and go change the gas. revmaaatin.> > Has anyone had any luck w/ a good polish? > The red on my '05 turned an ugly flat pinkish purple. > 3M Fiberglass cleaner/polish gives a satin finish and > only lasts a very few days. >

wax or polish recomandation for plastic?
I tried to wax my KLR and every time I got close to it it ran away from me.
A friend used Lemon Pledge furniture polish and it made the faded green look
much nicer for a couple weeks.

need input on wolfman expedition luggage
Hi Martin,
I have a full set of Wolfman luggage (Large Expedition rear bag, 2 duffles, saddle bags and tank paniers on my 2005 KLR. The Large Exedition and duffles are quite "waterproof" because fo their design. The saddle bags are quite good at keeping water out because they have the same trifold fold-down as the rear exedition and duffle. If you use the Rear Expedition with the Saddle Bags the Saddle Bags are completely protected becasue the Expedition bag sticks out over the seam between the water proof bag material and the soft backing of the bag.
The tank paniers do leak along this same seam in a good rain and of course the water does not drain out because the panniers are waterproof. The solution I use is to put both panniers in a Sea to Summit 13 liter (aka Large, a perfect fit)) dry bag and cut slits for the straps in the Sea to Summit. I seal the slits with a good tent patching tape and the Sea to Summit bags (about $15 each) have the same tri-fold closure on the top as Wolfman. Now no water at all can come in because the seam is protected. A tent seam sealer would also work on the inside of the top seam. Wolfman Eric I believe has rain covers for the tank Panniers (I am not positive about this), but I have found the Sea to Summit bags to be a great fit relative the size of the panniers and they do the job. Let me know if you would like more info.
I am sending this again now that I figured out that I need to reply to all. Sorry for the mulitple replys.

I recently purchased Wolfman Expedition Rear Saddle Bags and Tank
Panniers for my 2008 KLR in preperation for a trip from LA to
Honduras.
My thinking was that they were advertised as water resistant to
waterproof without the hassle of rain covers.
My first question is does anybody have personal experience with this
product at all, and how have you found them in general, and
specifically in rain.
My second issue/complaint is that they really do not mount very well
to the '08. The saddle bags are OK, but the tank panniers are at the
local shoemakers going through major modifications.
In Wolfman's defense, they were very willing to take back the tank
panniers, confirming that they were not compatible with the '08
My question now is to live with what I have, or is there really a
complete solution that anyone feels strongly about. And yes....I want
to stay with soft sided. I have a huge Givi Trunk up top for the
delicate stuff.
Look forward to your input and experience.
Martin
