Anyone tried the Shoei Hornet DS helmet yet? I'm coming off a lengthy
run (5 years) with my Arai XD, and I just bought a Gmax 37X dual sport
helmet. I haven't got enough miles with it to do a proper review but
my initial impressions are as follows:
Nice features, poorly executed. It has a breath guard included which
I have not been able to install (just can't line up the snaps for some
reason), a wind blocking triangle for under the chin, nice vents, a
double pane shield, and the option of the peak or the shield.
It flows a lot of wind even with the chin triangle attached and all of
the vents closed. Strange for a helmet designed to be used on
snowmobiles as well as motorcycles. I think it's gonna be a great
summer helmet!
The shield doesn't seal all that well. I haven't gotten a single pane
shield yet, but I doubt that will seal any better.
You can't run the shield and the peak at the same time like on the
Arai - of course on the Arai you kinda have to use the peak because,
as I found out on my return from the West coast to the best coast, the
shield won't close or open properly without the peak attached. Could
make some spacers out of a spare peak I s'pose but I never did. It
wasn't until this trip that I even bothered to try removing the peak
and now the Arai is retired.
So, that being said (or read), has anyone tried the Shoei yet? The
Shoei and the Arai are both close to $500 whereas the Gmax is only
about $120... Does Bieffe still make a DS helmet?

I don't want to kick off an oil thread, but do any of you old Artillery
types have a gallon of recoil that I can borrow?
