klr650 filter cover o-ring

Post by Jeff Saline » Thu Jan 31, 2008 1:36 pm

Listers, The other day I posted that I'd heard you got an o-ring with the filter when you ordered a Fram oil filter for the KLR650. But I didn't know for sure, until yesterday. I got an opportunity to order as much stuff as I wanted at 25% off at Checker Auto Parts. I took them up on the deal and put a Fram CH6070 oil filter on order since it wasn't in stock. The next morning I got a call saying all my parts were in. I placed the order around noon and had the parts in hand late the next morning. Pretty good service in my book. I haven't tried the Fram filter yet but it looks correct. It comes with two o-rings so I suppose that means it fits more than just the KLR650. The black o-ring looks about the correct size for the KLR650 filter cover. I won't give it a try until my next oil filter change which might be a few months off. I called the local dealer to check on price and availability of the filter cover o-ring. They said they showed one on-hand for $4.99 plus tax. The Fram filter retails at Checker for $6.49. I paid $4.87 with my discount. I suppose this would be a pretty good way to go if you need a filter o-ring. Even at list price you get the filter as a bonus for about $1.50. That's about what I paid for my Emgo filters a few years ago. Additionally there was no extra cost involved to get the filter overnight. I suppose, but don't know for sure, that to get an o-ring overnight from a dealer would probably cost at least $10. Hope this is helpful to someone.
