READ MR.GREEN INPUT ON THIS, BELOW; I AGREE, RIDING IS MORE THAN A MECHANICAL EXERCISE ( ZEN AND ... ),AS I SAID BEFORE IT IS ALMOST A MARTIAL ART KATA OR FORM,WELL... FOR THE CHOSEN ONES.......LIKE ME ,OF COURSE... When I walk out of the office and start putting on my gear, my co-workers are often surprised to come out five minutes later and still find me in the parking lot. The ritual of putting on the gear is not just a case of putting on the gear, however. It is also a ritual of getting myself into the right mindset, and I will fiddle and adjust my gear, toe the chain with my boot, etc., until the correct mindset is there. As you point out, the most important gear when riding is between your ears. The other gear is almost unnecessary if you use that gear between your ears properly and avoid accidents before they can happen.
