They saved my toes; they didn't amputate them. Proof happened a couple
of years ago on ESR when a giant boulder attacked my right boot and
rear brake lever, mount, and master cylinder. The rock destroyed it
all except my boot and toes and foot.

steel toed boots are fine

Indeed, OSHA would not require/allow steel toed boots if they would amputate toes in situations where the toes would not otherwise be amputated. Anything that has sufficient force to crush the steel toe of an OSHA-certified workboot would turn your toes into such hamburger that amputation would be necessary anyhow. I've seen someone drive a 4-ton work truck across the foot of someone wearing steel-toed boots and it didn't do a damned thing to his toes, whereas if he hadn't been wearing the boots, he wouldn't have toes left. So basically the "steel toed boots will amputate your toes" thingy is a myth. Now, what *is* true is that steel-toed boots typically do not have the waterproofness of a good touring boot, or the ankle support and shin protection of a good motocross boot. That's not what they are designed for. But if given a choice of wearing a steel-toed work boot or a non-steel-toed work boot, I'd choose the steel-toed one every time.> > They saved my toes; they didn't amputate them. Jeff, Oh, Sorry about your luck. I would say that you were not riding fast enough. (=similar situation; As I described my own mishap of being pinned underneath the KLR while on the GDR to a lady in Montana post office. She said, "If you are not falling down, you are not riding fast enough." Yeah, that's what she said. revmaaatin. who knows that when passing through 89degrees Angle of Bank on the KLR, you might consider that you will not recover> all except my boot and toes and foot. > > Jeffrey >
