Which is one reason my wife and I will only fly in the future if there
is no alternative. My wife and I both have artificial left knees which
seems to set off all sorts of suspicions with the TSA agents. After our
last trip through Seattle where we were treated with no respect.
Received contradictory commands from different TSA agents. Had my
leather belt and my metal cane run through the x-ray machine separately.
Had our belongings separated in 10 separate trays. And then expected to
put it all back and get out as fast as possible. Oh, I forgot both of us
being thoroughly patted down in public. That wasn't even as bad as the
late 60's couple of women who were hauled over by a team of 6 TSA agents
in the gate area and had there luggage gone through in front of all
the other passengers. They hauled out all of their clothing to include
used under clothes and had them held up and all the seams felt looking
for God knows what. Apparently this was done at random.

Every time we wait in line, take our shoes off or open up our laptop-a terrorist is smiling somewhere-he's won. Now a phone call or email has cancelled an excellent international sporting event.
Every time some terrorist or whack job calls up before a sporting event are we going to cancel it? What lunacy, soon we'll have to wear a crash helmet in our own home in case they decide to target individual houses.
I used to fly 3-5 times a week with a job I enjoyed-but 2 years ago decided, (because of the TSA, Government and other rude idiots), to retire early, so I didn't have to fly.
Since then, I've flown once, but travelled extensively in the US on my bikes (KLR & Versys) and in my truck. Sometimes with the bike in the back, to take me across mountain passes to warmer climates.
They've taken away bottled water, nail clippers-but left the best non-firing weapon on the plane-wine bottles. Anyone with any military training can tell you that a broken bottle is an excellent weapon-unless the other guy has a gun!

I'm with you on this one. My wife's 79 year old mother who has severe
bone disease and has to wear a bulky back brace that is very hard to
get on and off which she always has to do for the airport idiots when
she flies. Errr ..... she is no threat but ......... we can't profile
can we?
Ridiculous!

But you can rent an Iridium satellite phone for $35 a week. Unless you're spending months on the road, a phone call once a day on the sat phone will serve much the same purpose, and will be much better for non-emergency-emergencies such as calling your friends to haul a pickup truck out to where you're broken down so that you can get out of there without having to activate your PLB and get a major SAR action going. -E> > > out of business (as seems likely) it's a paperweight. > > > > And their coverage is nothing close to that of a PLB: > > > > http://www.globalstarusa.com/en/coverage/datacoverage/simplex_coverage.php > > Err. that was a half completed thought.
