While the doo has been improved it has been noted that the spring is too long and would not be able to take up any slack if you to adjust it.Iwould suggest getting one othe doo kits and replace both the doo and the spring.

I have done mine on my 2008 and have to agree with Greg's comment. The Doo itself would have been good enough but the spring already had very little tension at on 5500 Kms. I did the Doo and spring. --- Greg wrote:

I would not do anything till the warranty is expired as it may void something? I forget what the warranty is on mine which is also a 2008. When I spoke to the Kawasaki service manager he had heard of the 'doohickey' but had never seen a problem with it in his 20+ years working on Kawasaki bikes? He did admit that they didn't do alot of service on the KLR and indicated that it was one of the most solid Kawasaki products.

Slack in the spring has been covered well already, so I won't go there but the fit between the doo and the flats of the eccentric shaft are still pretty poor on the 08 doo, so while you're in there putting a new spring, putting in an Eagle Mike doo (that WILL fit better) is a must-doo. Yep. Hold off on the work till the warrantee is up. but be sure to keep up on the maintenance to keep you from arguing with the service dept when warrantee work is required. then do the do. My bike is not quite a year old yet. Few more days to go. As for the bike being solid and that has kept them out of the service dept???? well what about the variable of the skilled owner and a support group like this. Maybe it's the cheapness of the owners and skills and advice here that has kept this bike out of the dealer service dept. on top of the fact that the bike is very stout. Makes life easy when you have someone that can take you by the hand a walk you through the problem Kerry

The 90th running of the Crotona Midnight Run is only a few weeks away. http://ramapomc.org/CMR2008.pdf There's still plenty of time for anyone with a KLR within a reasonable distance of Yonkers, NY to prep your KLR and show up. I trailer down from New Hampshire. Besides warm clothing, you'll need a route sheet holder and a good watch that won't freeze. The alternate view is that most Kawasaki dealers aren't terribly competent mechanics, especially on the KLR, so you'd really rather not get into a major engine repair situation with them in the first place. Out here in Kallyfooorneeya, as long as the work you do on your vehicle does not contribute to the failure that you are submitting a warranty claim for, you are free to change out factory parts for better quality aftermarket parts. From my experience with at least 200 KLR's over the past 6 years, including two of my own, you need to replace your 'doo and spring. BTW, those 200 KLRs are probably four times the number of KLRs sold through your dealership and at least 10X the KLRs your service manager has had his hands into. Mike Cowlishaw has been into at least twice that number of KLRs over the same period, and I'll bet he'll agree with me on the ratios. Easy job to do, Stoneage technology, built in a third world country, do the work yourself. Buddy bseifert71@...
