front wheel mounting tip

Post by davseidman » Mon Nov 19, 2007 2:38 pm

I put the front wheel back on after changing the tire. Everything looked right and the wheel spun nicely. That is, until I torqued the axle nut down. Then the wheel only spun if you pushed it, stopping immediately once force was removed. I took the wheel off and looked inside the speedometer takeoff. Inside is a two-flanged washer (part #41064-1051) that mates with two slots in the wheel's hub. On mine the two flanges were bent in. The tricky part when putting the wheel back on is that you can't "feel" whether the flanges are in the slots or not. Mine weren't. They hit the hub in the wrong spot and dragged on the wheel. It's a cheap part and easily replaced. But be careful lining up the flanges and slots, and you'll never have to buy one.
