Anybody on the list ever wear out a disc brake? I think I remember
someone commenting about damaging a brake from rocks, but has anyone
wore one out? If so, how many miles, etc.

The front rotor on my '99 measured under the minimum thickness stamped on it and was replaced. Sorry I don't know the actual mileage, it had a damaged speedo hub at one time. I still have the rotor I took off. The rear rotor is the original and is in good shape. My '02 is at 30,000 miles and both original rotors still measure well above minimum. I have only used stock pads. Ken> > Anybody on the list ever wear out a disc brake? I think I remember > someone commenting about damaging a brake from rocks, but has anyone > wore one out? <><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Capt. Bob, I experience the same thing about the posting on brakes and composition of the pads. I have about 19,000 smiles on my KLR and the pads are still over 50%. But I use both brakes for my stopping when I use brakes. I usually try to practice "smooth is fast" and use the throttle to regulate my speed. But I'll often touch the brakes if someone is behind me so they get the benefit of the brake light for helping them gage my intentions. I'm not a 9/10s rider but I do get along pretty well.
