totally nklr- bike lift/rant

Hmm... How many of you out there refuse to use a cheapo scissor jack while under your car? How many of you have a nice hydraulic jack but you still use jack stands with it? I hope all, and I hope everyone uses good safety equipment regardless. I mean what the hell is the difference here? The story could be "Jackass underneath car killed when jack fails/moves/etc." and none of us would move for retribution against the jack maker... We'd all be "WTF, he should have had jack stands under there as well". But when it comes to motorcycles the story is totally different. This posting is ridiculous... Quite frankly whomever this was lacked common sense. I certainely wouldn't put a LeadWing (what do they weigh? Must be close to a half-ton) up on ANYTHING without some kind of safety stands to augment the lift. I mean, COME ON PEOPLE, there is no substitute for common sense! Equipment is *NEVER* a replacement for common sense though most Americans seem to think so... Look at our damned auto industry. This should be titled, SAMS CLUB LIFT PROPER USE ALERT!! i.e. USE some GOD DAMN COMMON SENSE and put some jack stands/etc. underneath it for your own safety. I am happy that he escaped unharmed and hopefully he'll be a bit more intelligent about it next time, perhaps even pass on this knowledge to his kiddies. ------------------ Zack SE DC KLR650A5 "Buster" ZG1000A1 COG #4664 ===Fwd Mess===

In case any of you know anyone with this lift, saw this on gwrra SAMS CLUB LIFT ALERT People using this lift will want to be aware of a failure that has happened when using this lift. One of our chapter members was using his lift to change tires when it collapsed. They had just stood up from being underneath it when some bolts sheared and it dropped the bike (sans tires, bags, and other bits) straight down onto it's undercarriage. They were lucky. The bike wasn't. They are negotiating with Sam's (good to them so far) and the manufacturer (not happy campers trying to work with these folks) on getting the damage to their custom painted y2k 1500 fixed. At a minimum, the owner is recommending everyone replace all the included bolts with some of better toughness (tensile strength). They also point out they will never again use a lift without the extra safety of stands or other supports that will hold the bike in the event of another failure. ===End Mess===
