Latest video of me showing(off) my B9 arm - Skin on

Post by David Schulpius » Sat Dec 26, 2015 5:43 pm

Here's my latest video of me showing(off, LOL) how the B9 arm I've built works and looks with the rubber covering skin applied. I don't have the supporting rings installed inside the rubber bellow that help hold the rubber arm in its round shape. The result is that the arm looks a little misshapen and not a rigid. You can also see mechanisms poking against the rubber as the arm moves around because of this. However, you'll get the general idea how my arm with Will Huff's rubber skin looks to our old friend from the original TV Lost in Space 1960's TV show. I've also shown how a couple of rebuilds turned out my the wrist and claw servo mechanisms.

Hello Dave:   Merry Christmas:   Wow the arm looks even better with the rubber skin on it. Just amazing. I don't think a human could have those great movements inside the robot. Good thing you got the experimental rubber skin to use now.   Just amazing Dave, no words could say. Very quiet mechanized arm. This always reminds me of the Reluctant Stowaway, when the robot turns the power pack power on.   Vic B9-0082   In a message dated 12/26/2015 5:48:03 P.M. Thanks guys.
LOL Vic! Ya it's good to have this experimental rubber skin (after I ripped the hell out of it).

OMG Dave!  You are an absolute genius.  Having the arm bellows on has brought it all together and he looks amazing.  I love watching your videos, I know I haven't got anything like the talent you have in electronics and it makes me laugh how you casually describe how you strip down a servo and reverse the wiring, something I wouldn't have a clue about.  What your videos do is inspire members like myself and maybe I could take something from them and just have a go at a small part like the claw mechanism.  Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see him in action.

Incredible Dave You've taken b9 to a new level !!!!Soon a costume b9 won't be needed ..Movements are as though a human arm is inside that rubber. -Tom

Dave, that's an absolute work of art! The motion is so fluid and such a large range of motion....as if Rob May himself was in it!

Re: Latest video of me showing(off) my B9 arm - Skin on

Thanks again everyone. Your support really helps me to keep going and motivated.
When dreamed this thing up I had no idea it would look so real when it moved around. I think a large part of the realism is Will Huff's high quality arm skin and the ease of programing that EZ Robot offers. Without them this arm would be a "misguided mechanical misery" to borrow one of Dr Smith's names for our "old booby".
Steve, as far as being casual about rewiring that little servo; I'm just not too worried about breaking it. I always try to get a backup part or two just in case I do tear up something beyond repair. I try not to be afraid of failing. That attitude just slows down or even stops the work and progress. I tell myself it's just prototyping and part of the cost of building something worthwhile and my childhood dream. To tell the truth I had to rebuild that claw movement section at least three times till I was happy. I still may redo it at some point if I come across a better way. I also have a whole bag of servos I've destroyed or burnt up (including 2 that cost $150 each!) trying different methods of doing things. There may be at least 20 servos of different types in there. I have to keep it sealed up because it smells like burnt up electronic parts. LOL.
Thanks for the interest guys.

Dave, that's an absolute work of art! The motion is so fluid and such a large range of motion....as if Rob May himself was in it!

Latest vid of my B9 arm - Skin on

Enjoy, Dave Schulpius
